Creating safety awareness

The community should play along with the police.

Malvern East and Wychwood were recently the focus of a visit from members of the Primrose SAPS and their Crime Prevention Youth Desk.

They descended on this Sector Three area to warn the community to be extra careful.

“This came after our statistics showed that there has been an increase in the theft of motor vehicles, house-breakings and theft in this sector,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“We appeal to the community to avoid making themselves vulnerable to crime, especially those who still park their vehicles outside their yards.

“Community members must also make sure their visitors don’t park their cars outside when they come to visit.”

Maome added that while out patrolling, the police members try their level best to warn community members, but many do not want to cooperate and become arrogant when asked to park their vehicles inside, or to close their gates.

“They tell the police it is their duty to patrol the area,” Maome said.

“We will continue holding awareness drives to try to educate the community, as they are in need of safety tips.”
