National Transport Month gets ready to roll out

It is transport month in the metro.

October is not only a month to celebrate the late O R Tambo but also National Transport Month.

The Department of Transport, Planning and Provision has been busy putting a full month’s programme in place.

Transport Month activities will be focused on promoting the use of public transport, as well as educating the community on its importance.

The month’s events will include school debates on various transport-related topics, which aims to educate students on the role transport plays in our communities.

Free vehicle testing for public transport operators will include trucks, buses and taxis.

The metro’s highlight on the national transport programme will be when 2 000 high school learners from underprivileged backgrounds are offered the opportunity to be trained and tested for their learner’s licences, free of charge.

The city will wrap up its Transport Month programme with the Annual Transport Indaba.

More details on the national transport activities for October will be made available to the public as soon as they are finalised, and will be distributed through various media platforms, including the municipality’s website.
