A hundred years of service

The Germiston Central Methodist Church's Women's Auxiliary recently celebrated 100 years of service.

There was much cause for celebration, last Saturday, when the centenary celebrations of the Germiston Central Methodist Church’s Women’s Auxiliary took place.

The women took pride in celebrating 100 years of serving the community and the Lord.

Members of nine other women’s auxiliaries attended the event, as well as some valued “oldies”, who have served the organisation through the years.

President of the Germiston Central Methodist Church’s Women’s Auxiliary Kathy Hartley welcomed everyone who attended and thanked all for their congratulatory wishes.

District president Judy Allen told the story of the “Ant and the Grasshopper” and said she hoped the Germiston Women’s Auxiliary would continue to grow from strength to strength, with many ants and no grasshoppers.

The Germiston Central Methodist Church’s Women’s Auxiliary is currently looking for more members.

The women, who meet once a month, and run a soup kitchen together with another church, every second week, to feed the homeless, as well as being involved in other community projects, invite interested women to contact them.

The group helps two old age homes and the Epworth Children’s Village and has just started a project to assist rape victims.

To find out more, contact Kathy on 079 736 4900, or call the church office on 011 873-8633.
