Following a high speed chase on the N3 highway, from Alberton, three men were apprehended by officers from the EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Unit, on June 12.
“The Alberton area has been dogged by a spate of house burglaries recently, and when this Fiat sedan with suspicious-looking occupants was sighted by the Metro Police and CPS Private Security Company, it took off,” said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.
The law enforcers gave chase and the Fiat was closed in on the N3 North, opposite the PPC Cement Factory.
The Fiat sedan was displaying false number plates and when the officers searched the vehicle they discovered a bag full of housebreaking implements.
“Upon searching the vehicle, a bag with crow bars, bolt cutters and screw drivers was found,” said Kgasago.
“Over and above this, the correct number plate was super-imposed with a false one, with the last two letters changed.”
Three men, in their late 30s, were arrested and taken to the Alberton Police Station.
Investigations are underway, to check if the trio can be linked to the recent numerous housebreakings in the area.
