The DA wants the metro to immediately repair the sinkhole on Second Avenue, in Marlands, to prevent possible harm to motorists and pedestrians.
Repeated reports from the DA ward councillor and members of the community about the state of this road have fallen on deaf ears.
“Had the metro’s roads department reacted swiftly and carried out the necessary repairs timeously it could have prevented the major expense now required to fix this sinkhole,” said Tania Campbell, Ward 21 councillor.
“If the DA was running the metro, problems of this sort would be dealt with proactively and not reactively, as demonstrated by a particular sinkhole in Edenvale, that was repaired only after it caused a major accident.
“It seems to us, in the DA, that the ANC generally and worryingly waits until all matters reach crisis point before they are addressed and, like this one, many issues have led to serious injury and even fatalities before action has been taken.”
