Truck breaks down on Barbara Road

Truck left unattended for hours.

The GCN received a call from an anxious resident last Tuesday afternoon.

The caller, who would like to remain anonymous, told us that a truck was parked in the middle of Barbara Road and in front of his house.

“This truck has been here since 8am and now it is 4.30pm and it is still here,” he said.

“What worries me is that this truck has been here the whole day, but I haven’t seen the SAPS, EMPD or the fire brigade coming out to attend to it.

“Barbara Road is a busy road and I kept hearing cars screeching by the truck all day.”

On arrival, the GCN found that the truck was near a sharp curve and, although the driver had put out a warning triangle, he was also using his reflector bib to alert motorists and control traffic.

“This is a sharp curve and although I put the triangle at a safe distance from the truck I am also worried that other motorists might not see it,” said the driver, Takemore Chigatse.

He confirmed that the truck had been there since morning.

“I don’t know what happened, it just broke down right here, I really don’t know what the problem is,” he explained.

The truck was, however, towed when Chigatse’s employers arrived with a TLB earth-mover later that afternoon.
