Beer confiscated during arrest

Police continue to crack down on alcohol related crimes.

The Primrose police recently arrested a Makause informal settlement resident for selling liquor without a licence.

The arrest was made when officers were on a foot patrol of the area.

During the patrol officers noticed a group of people sitting and drinking alcohol.

“Officers stopped and observed people going in and out of a nearby shack with bottles of beer,” said communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

They approached the place and asked the owner for permission to search the premises.

Crates containing beer bottles were also confiscated by the Primrose police during the arrest.

The police arrested him and took him to the Primrose Police Station for detention.

“We will continue to have similar operations in our informal settlements to reduce the high volume of liquor-related crimes,” added Maome.

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrate Court where the case was postponed for trial.
