Primrose Sector Two residents are taking back the streets

Crime issues are being tackled by community members.

The residents of Primrose Sector Two have decided to take a stand against crime in the area.

They recently attended a meet and greet event in the park at the Gerdview Swimming Pool where members got to meet their neighbours and other community members.

The following week, Father Christmas came and visited the park and the children were able to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

“This is a way for the community to get to know each other and thus know when there are people who do not live in the area lurking around,” said Wendy Morgan from the Primrose CPF.

“There are now a number of Sector Two community members who are patrolling the area on a voluntary basis to help the SAPS by being the eyes and ears in the streets and to show criminals that we will not take the crime in the area.

“These patrollers are not there to be called out to protect the public that the SAPS has to do.

“We need to raise funds to buy bullet proof vests for these patrollers, who are vulnerable while out there protecting the rest of us while we sleep.

“If every household in Sector Two donates R100, or more, we will be able to purchase enough vests for these patrollers to keep them safe.”

Donations can be deposited into a bank account or given directly to Morgan, all will be receipted.

“Crime was very high in the area and since these patrollers have been around, the crime has decreased drastically – alertness and awareness from the public plays an important role in crime fighting,” Morgan said.

The aim of the Sector Two Crime Forum is to get every member of the community onto a Whatsapp group, where information can be shared and thus keep the criminals out of the area.

Each street needs to have a street leader who will then get everyone in their street onto a group, and then pass information on that way.

This will be for lookouts and crime updates.

If you are prepared to become a street leader or would like to find out if there is already a group for your street, contact Morgan on 072 963 9675 or WO Melissa du Plessis on 082 304 7053 via Whatsapp.
