Victim empowerment volunteers wanted

Become a victim empowerment volunteer and make a difference in your community.

The Germiston police are in the process of improving their Victim Empowerment Centre.

There is a need to increase the number of volunteers who would be available to ensure an effective service is rendered to the community.

Victim empowerment contains the following four basic elements: emotional support; practical support; providing and receiving information and referral to professional support services.

Training of volunteers has kindly been agreed to by Epworth Children’s Village.

The training is planned for early this year and is expected to be on Saturday mornings for about eight weeks.

A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

Volunteers should be older than 21 years.

They receive no payment or stipends.

Volunteers must also take note that their volunteering will not lead to them being employed at either the police or Epworth.

Vetting will occur before training occurs.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a victim empowerment volunteer, or who is already trained, can contact Epworth on 011 827-5732.
