I know the subject of fireworks is as old as dinosaurs, but this is the thing: what exactly are the rules and regulations?
Throughout the holiday period announcements were made that fireworks are illegal when fired in areas where there are houses and that they are permitted to be set off in the presence off, or by adults.
They can also only to be sold to people over the age of 18.
I also heard that they can also only be set off between 11pm and 1am on New Year’s Eve.
But then laws are just made to be broken…
There is no law enforcement, so there are no rules.
So here we are yet again trying to calm down our poor animals days after some idiots set off their fireworks in our neighbourhoods.
When we asked the neighbours who were letting off fireworks to please consider our animals and stop the fireworks, we were told that they had permission to set off fireworks as the police permitted them, because they have a firearm licence.
It is my wish for the New Year that all fireworks be banned.
I would also like to know how a shop in Elsburg can display a banner for selling fireworks legally if the shop is situated in a neighbourhood with houses all around – how do the police grant this merchant his selling licence?
In the end it’s all about money and selfish acts and these people selling don’t feel a thing for people not wanting the bangs all around them.
If the rules are made, should they not be enforced by the police?
Why do they give permits to sell if it is illegal?
Can we not stop the merchants from selling?
Maybe the CPF can do a better job of enforcing the law, as they were the ones patrolling our streets on New Year’s Eve?
Give them permission to confiscate fireworks at houses and premises where there are children and animals.
