Two men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested by the Katlehong SAPS last Tuesday night in Moleleki Extention One, in Katlehong.
The men were charged with attempted murder as well as the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrest was made when officers, conducting a normal night time stop-and-search operation, received a call about a shooting in the area.
Upon arrival, the woman who had called police, approached them and explained what happened.
“She alleged that she was entering her yard when two men in a Toyota Conquest stopped beside her,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, communication official for the Katlehong SAPS.
“The two men got out of the vehicle. One took out a gun and fired a shot at her.”
The woman ran inside her home and called the police.
Officers, using the description given by the victim, started a search for the two men.
The Toyota Conquest was spotted only a few meters from the scene, with the two men still inside.
The men were asked to get out of the vehicle so that officers could search them.
During the search, officers found a 9mm pistol with three rounds of ammunition.
These items were seized by the Katlehong SAPS and sent for ballistic tests to assist officers in their case.
The men were positively identified by the victim and arrested.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.
