Load shedding could be implemented at a moment’s notice
National grid vulnerable due to technical issues which have affected several generators.
Eskom has released a statement this morning in which the company states that there is a high risk of load shedding for the rest of the week, this comes after several generators broke down on Tuesday afternoon.
Yesterday’s (Teusday) load shedding was brought to an end earlier then expected after the demand for power was brought down to a manageable level.
Eskom’s Khulu Phasiwe said that, “Load shedding could be implemented due to the vulnerability of the power grid and technical issues which have affected several generators.
“Our technicians will do everything possible to return them back to service as soon as possible, but the risk of load shedding for the rest of the week is high.
“Until we get additional new generating capacity or the generating units which are currently out of service we will remain with this risk.”
Eskom in the meantime urged customers to continue to use electricity sparingly and has once again appealed to customers to switch off non-essential appliances to conserve electricity.
Phasiwe added, “Switch off the lights, especially at night when there’s no one in the offices, and in the afternoon, when people knock-off they need to switch off everything including air conditioning and other devices that are energy consuming.”
