The bodies of two young boys were discovered at 6pm, on Wednesday, in a white BMW 316i, by members of the Germiston SAPS.
The boys, believed to be aged between two and three years old and eight and 10 years old, respectively, were found lying in the car.
“After discovering the boys, the police broke one of the car’s windows to gain access to them and immediately contacted paramedics,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS cluster stations.
“Paramedics declared the boys dead on the scene.”
The car was reported to the Germiston SAPS by a member of the public, who became suspicious after it had been parked under a tree in Leipoldt Street in the Germiston CBD for a long time.
The boys have yet to be identified.
The police conducted enquiries about the vehicle and discovered that it had not been reported stolen.
The vehicle owner’s name is known to them.
“An autopsy on the boys’ bodies will be conducted to determine the cause of death as this is unknown at this stage,” said Phooko.
“The SAPS are currently investigating the matter.”
