Great accolade for local NGO

Katlehong's Tsohang Youth Project scooped the MEC Special Award at the Ke Moja Awards, recently.

Katlehong’s Tsohang Youth Project (TYP) received great representation at the Ke Moja Awards, held at the Birchwood Hotel, in Boksburg, recently.

Moses Gama, director of the local NGO, received the MEC Special Award at the ceremony, hosted by the Department of Social Development.

“Ke Moja is a drug prevention programme and the awards were primarily formed to reward different organisations for their contributions to the fight against the use of drugs and other illegal substances, and for raising awareness,” said Gama.

“It is with great pleasure and humility that I accept the award, presented to me by the MEC for Social Development, Faith Mazibuko. This is a great honour bestowed upon me and I am grateful.

“This accolade comes as a result of collective efforts and acknowledges what we are doing as a unit, from the highest provincial offices down to the volunteers, who do the ground work for TYP.”

Gama added that the award is a true reflection of great team work.

“A big thank you goes to the commitment and support of the TYP team, with whose efforts this was possible,” he said.

“Thanks to the executive management committee, the different stakeholders, the service users (drug and alcohol addicts) who come forward, broadcast and print media and the community for their immense contributions and assistance when we need it.

“This award is not mine to accept alone, but ours to celebrate as a unit and to keep our work going forward as we move towards a drug-free society.”
