Work on the Delville Extension Nine social housing project is in full swing and progressing well.
Employees from the metro, including the head of department for human settlements, Bongani Molefe, visited the building site recently to view a “show” unit.
The unit had been done in various finishes, in order for Molefe to see what the different finishes would look like, and for the municipality to then make a decision on which finishes to use for the remaining units.
This project is taking place at the same time as the Germiston Fire Station social housing project, and the metro has set aside R132-million to complete the two projects.
The Delville Extension Nine project will boast of 112 social housing units.
Some units will have two bedrooms, some will have one and others will be bachelor flats.
However, each unit will have its own living room, kitchen and bathroom.
Provision will also be made to cater for people with disabilities.
The construction of the fire station project will see a total of 353 units built, with 144 units planned for phase one and 209 units to be constructed during phase two of the project.
