Taxis scrutinised by EMPD officers

EMPD officers focused their attention on unroadworthy mini-bus taxis, last Friday.

Continuing with their Bumper to Bumper operation, EMPD officers focused on ridding the roads of unroadworthy mini-bus taxis last Friday.

The operation took place from 2pm to 10pm in Katlehong.

“Ten mini-bus taxis found to be in an appalling state and, therefore, posing a potential danger to both the commuters and other road users were impounded,” said Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, the spokesman for the EMPD.

“One mini-bus taxi with a smooth tyre and a cracked windscreen was issued with a discontinued notice, which means the taxi may not be used on a public road until it is re-tested.”

The operation was carried out in the Tsietsi Section at the intersection of the M7 and Brickfield Road, as well as at the intersection of the M7 and Mercury Road.

All the impounded vehicles were towed to the EMPD pound in Alberton.
