The ballot boxes are being set up and Ekurhuleni’s councillors are preparing to vote for the speaker of council.
There have been two nominations: Clr Patricia Kumalo (from the ANC, who has been nominated again) and Clr Shadow Shabangu (from the DA).
The EFF has questioned the process and is asking why the vote must be secret.
Secretary of council Nana Moloi has given the following response to the query, listen below:
A 20-minute recess was called in order to set up the ballot boxes in the council chamber.
Councillors are now returning to the chamber to get the voting process underway.
