The votes have been counted and the ANC’s Clr Patricia Kumalo has been re-elected as the speaker of council for Ekurhuleni.
She said, “It is a great honour to be elected as speaker again.
“I remain truly humbled and will endeavour to run this council chamber with integrity and impartiality.”
Kumalo received 117 votes, while Clr Shadow Shabangu from the DA received 106 votes. There were 224 ballots cast and one was a spoilt vote.
A 10-minute recess has now been called.
