Five illegal taverns closed in Primrose

Primrose police continue to crackdown on the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose.

Alcohol abuse in the informal settlements of Primrose continues to be a challenge to the Primrose police.

With this in mind officers from the station have been holding regular operations in the Makause, Marathon and Delport informal settlements in an effort to curb the problem.

During the station’s most recent operation, in the Makause informal settlement, officers closed down five illegal taverns confiscating crates of liquor.

The owner of each tavern, aged between 21 and 37 years old, was arrested and charged with dealing in liquor without a licence, when they were unable to give police their liquor licences.

The accused were taken to the Primrose Police Station where they were formally charged, but later released after paying admission of guilt fines.

The confiscated alcohol will be destroyed at a later stage.
