In the hope of reaching a solution to a large number of crimes, linked to alcohol, the Katlehong Police and local CPFs recently held a meeting with local tavern owners.
Tavern owners from Moleleki Extension Two and Three, Katlehong South and Vosloorus Extension 20 were invited to the meeting spearheaded by Lieut-Col Shadrack Maluleke and Capt Sipho Nhleko, with the help of the SAPS sector managers and CPFs.
The main focus of discussion was crimes related to liquor abuse and what tavern owners could do to help to prevent such crimes.
“They were told how they can and cannot operate their businesses, this included what times they should open and close their taverns.
“Officers also addressed dangerous weapons inside the taverns, as well as security and hygienic risks,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.
The meeting’s attendance was good with owners committing to work with the police.
