Dzulani celebrates Mandela Day in style
Various companies came to celebrate Mandela Day with orphans at Dzulani Children Care (an orphanage) in Vosloorus on July 18.
Consol Glass Wadeville, Chris Hani Shopping Mall, Youth Managers Foundation, Dinatle Constuctions and Nike Clothing were the five companies that visited the orphanage and donated different things that were needed at the home.
Dinatle Construction donated groceries, Youth Managers Forum donated clothes, while Consol Glass Wadeville prepared breakfast and lunch and donated groceries and school uniforms.
Chris Hani Mall management donated 10 beds, bed covers, hygiene kits, and also prepared lunch and groceries while Nike Clothing donated Party Parks.
According to excited Nelly Nelukau, the founder of the orphanage, the five companies made the day a success.
“We thank them for everything they have done for us. The donations they have made today will bring about a big change in the children’s lives,” said Nelukau.
She said they still need sheets and pillows to cover the beds that were donated on the day.
“There is still a lot that is needed. We still need pots, cutlery sets and stoves. If anyone could come and help we will highly appreciate it as we are still struggling to get help from the Department of Social Welfare,” said Nelukau.
She said the home is not only for children without parents but is also a home to children with parents who are struggling financially.
“I would like to see children not suffering but living a good life instead,” said Nelukau.
She said the feeling started after her child went missing. She said she resigned from work because she wanted to start the orphanage.
One of the orphans, Jabulani Tshabalala (22) received a gift of a motorised wheelchair from the organisation – Wheels of Change on the day.
He couldn’t contain his excitement.
“I am so happy about the gift. My life is going to be easier,” said Tshabalala.
Thandi Nkosi, ward 47 councillor, pleaded with Nelukau not to give up.
“What you are doing is good. I would like to see you getting help. Even if it costs me to ask the government to intervene, I will do so myself.
“Don’t mind those who are looking down on you. They will try their best to see you fail but please don’t give up on doing something good for the community. These children are the future of the community,” said Clr Nkosi.
She asked the community to support Nelukau.
