Eight schools in the Germiston area are the winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition.
They each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000 at the recent Cashbuild Roodekop store opening ceremony.
Roofing equipment, painting, as well as maintenance are some of the improvements the school principals plan to carry out using their winning voucher.
Ayanda Pre-School, Phumula Gardens Secondary School and Laerskool Delville were three of the eight schools that each received vouchers.
Ayanda Pre-School’s principal Phindi Sishange said they were very happy about the news.
The voucher came at the perfect time as they are currently expanding the pre-school to become a primary school.
They need roofing material, bags of cement, windows and new doors.
Mathabo Sekutu, head of department at Phumula Gardens Secondary School said they wish to buy a drilling machine, door handles and some paint.
The principal of Laerskool Delville, Adriaan Fourie, added that they are going to personally visit the new Cashbuild store so that they can see what they can get for the school’s maintenance.
At the official Cashbuild Roodekop store opening ceremony children from the schools entertained everyone with songs, cultural dances and theatrical performances.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition saw learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild.
The artwork was displayed at the ceremony and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

The artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named.
Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively.
The Manager’s Choice Award was also presented to the overall winner, Ofentse Selepe from Laerskool Leondale.
This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
The winner also officially opened the store.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 16 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 2 700 schools in Southern Africa with over R33-million worth of building material.
Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools.
