Look out for pedestrians while driving
Zonkizizwe SAPS have issued a warning to motorists travelling on the M7, south of Kathorus, to drive carefully and watch out for pedestrians, especially after dark.
This follows the arrest of a motorist on a charge of culpable homicide following the death of a 25-year-old pedestrian on the same road on March 3. The 49-year-old man appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court where the case was remanded pending further police investigations.
The driver is alleged to have only reported the accident at the Zonkizizwe SAPS two days later, on March 5. He was immediately arrested and charged with culpable homicide. He also faces an additional charge of failing to report a motor vehicle accident within the prescribed time.
Sergeant Rufus Tema of the Zonkizizwe SAPS has also issued a stern warning to motorists and pedestrians alike to take great care when walking or driving on this stretch of open road in the eastern outskirts of Vosloorus.
“All vehicle drivers are expected by law to report any accident within the prescribed period of 24-hours. Any time later than that could see a driver being arrested and charged with failing to report a motor accident on time,” said Tema.
