Community members assist in arrest

Primrose police apprehend a man for house break-in and theft in Oak Avenue.

Two brothers assisted the Primrose police in the arrest of a man in Oak Avenue recently.

The man was charged with house break-in and theft after allegedly robbing an Oak Avenue home.

“The complainant told officers from the Primrose Police Station that he and his brother were at home when he decided to go to the shops.

“His brother stayed behind but soon called him, stating that there were men in the bachelor flat in their backyard,” explained the communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The brothers inspected the flat and discovered that a number of items had been taken.

“They decided to go looking for the suspects and soon found them emerging from some bushes,” said Maome.

The accused allegedly dropped the stolen items they were carrying and ran in different directions, but the brothers were able to catch one of the men and handed him over to the police.

“We thank the members of the community who worked hand in hand with the police in this arrest and commend them for not taking the law into their own hands,” said Maome.

The man was taken to the Primrose Police Station and later appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
