DEMS supports Madiba Day by giving to primary school
The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) made Mandela Day a memorable occasion for learners at the Palm Ridge Primary School in Tsietsi Extension 23, Palm Ridge.

It was not the first time DEMS officials visited the school.
In April 2018, during the launch of the winter awareness campaign, the department was offered the premises to educate the parents of the learners and local neighbours about their services. DEMS visited the school again on July 18, this time to celebrate 100 years of the late former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday by donating sporting attire and groceries to the school.
Community Safety MMC Clr Vivian Chauke, together with the head of department, Sam Sibande, handed the attire to the school principal while all the educators and about 1 500 learners witnessed with vibrant ululations. Beneficiaries of the donated sporting attire were the school’s netball and soccer teams.
The gear included sanitary pads and takkies (sneakers) for the girls and soccer boots for the boys. The school also received groceries to enhance the school’s feeding scheme. As part of the visit, the DEMS soccer team held a friendly interaction with the school’s team. It also assisted the young soccer players with impacting coaching and playing skills.
