Update: Emergency services respond to multi-vehicle accident on N12
Accident leaves two dead, one seriously injured.
Rescue teams from the Boksburg Fire Station responded to an accident involving multiple vehicles last Friday evening.
The incident took place at about 6.40pm on the N12 east- and westbound carriageways between Kraft and Jet Park roads.
William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), said, “When emergency services arrived on scene it was alleged that the driver of an articulated truck, loaded with rolled metal sheets, and driving on the eastbound carriageway, lost control of the vehicle and crashed against the centre concrete barrier of the highway.
“Two other vehicles were involved in the crash and subsequently, in the opposite direction, two more light motor vehicles were involved in a secondary crash.”
Ntladi told the GCN that two drivers, one from the truck and the other from a sedan on the opposite side of the highway, were declared dead on scene by paramedics.

“Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate and recover the body of the truck driver from the wreckage.
“One seriously injured patient was transported by private ambulance services to a medical facility for further care, while the rest of the occupants from all the vehicles involved, escaped with minor injuries and were not transported to hospital,” said Ntladi.
Both sides of the highway were closed to traffic for the duration of the rescue operations and by 10pm two lanes on each side of the highway had been opened.
The cause of the crash is still undetermined and under investigation by EMPD officers.
