Festive spirit leads to great fund-raising evening
The Din-Al-View CPF hosted a successful Christmas in July dinner at Mike’s Kitchen Lambton.
A festive, Christmassy atmosphere greeted guests as they walked through the doors of Mike’s Kitchen in Lambton, last Tuesday.
The special Christmas in July event had two aims, namely to collect much-needed food for Siyabonga Children’s Home situated in Norton Small Farms and to raise funds for the Din-Al-View CPF.
The evening, hosted by the CPF, saw community members, SAPS members, local councillors and Mike’s Kitchen staff enjoying a meal and a laugh for a good cause.
Teresa Robertson, the public relations officer for the Din-Al-View CPF, said they were honoured to have the support and attendance of the Germiston SAPS station commander Brig Nkhensani Lemba and her team, Ward 37, 39 and 36 ward councillors Tiaan Kotze, Alta de Beer and Wendy Morgan, the team from Mike’s Kitchen head office (marketing, operations and finance divisions) and Renee Germeshuisen (chairperson of Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF and Germiston Central CPF and vice-chairperson of the Ekurhuleni West Cluster CPF).
Also enjoying the great buffet meal were pastor Neville Marillier (an assistant pastor at the Christian Faith Fellowship Church), pastor Manuel Ribeiro (senior pastor at the Christian Faith Fellowship Church and co-founder of Siyabonga Children’s Home), Gail Fick from the Pink Ladies, Khelha Khambule (Provincial MEC for Safety and Security) and TJ Masilela (chairperson of the Gauteng provincial CPF board).
About 130 people attended the event and the CPF was thrilled with the success of the evening.
Although all the money raised and food collected is still in the audit process, Teresa told the GCN that they have reached their target of one ton of food, with people also giving monetary donations to Siyabonga.

The CPF thanks SWS, Merv’s Hardware, Albemarle Local Choice Pharmacy, Alberton High School (which delivered food directly to Siyabonga), Barry and Ann Taylor (who came up with the idea and decorated the restaurant), Garth Miller (the owner of Mike’s Kitchen) and the Mike’s Kitchen team, Austin Esterhuizen, a learner at Alberton High, who ran the drive at his school, Hoërskool Alberton, which made a substantial donation, and the Germiston community at large.
“This was a beautiful display of schools, businesses, the church, the SAPS, the CPF, councillors and residents coming together to make a difference,” said Teresa.
All the names of those in attendance at the event have gone into a lucky draw and 15 names will be drawn.
These people will be invited to Mike’s Kitchen soon and they will be given the chance to draw a number.
Each number has been allocated a prize.
