The Elsburg police assisted a shop owner with opening a case of business burglary last Thursday after his competitor’s employee allegedly stole goods from his shop.

“The victim alleged when he left his business premises the day before all doors and windows were closed.

“The following morning when he arrived at work he noticed a broken window.

“He then proceeded to enter the premises to check what had happened and he found his business had been burgled.

“A quantity of 150 handbags were missing from his shelves,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

He further alleged upon checking the CCTV footage, it was revealed the employee of his neighbouring competitor was the one who had broken into his business, accompanied by an unknown male.

“The information was given to the investigating officer who went in search of the suspects.

“Through tracing one suspect’s movements, he managed to arrest both suspects, aged between 34 and 56,” said Phooko.

The suspects will soon appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court to face charges of business burglary.
