The three most dangerous snakes on the East Rand

The warm weather means snakes will now be up and about after a long period of hibernation, hungry and in search of food. From mid-August until late May it is snake season. More than 80 per cent of all snakebites in South Africa occurs between January and April and in the early evening with people accidentally stepping on snakes.

Warning – Hot and uncomfortable weather conditions expected to hit Gauteng this week

Residents across Gauteng were in for a hot spring week as heatwave conditions hit Gauteng, from last Monday. Gauteng residents experienced temperatures of up to 33ºC, and the temperatures remained in the high-20s to mid-30s for most of the week heading into the weekend.

Bitter-sweet retirement for local dentist

Dr Maria Kmietsch has retired and closed down her dental practice in Rietfontein Road, Primrose, after 26 years in the business. Maria, the daughter of a German missionary doctor and an Austrian mother, has lived her life practising ubuntu, a core value her father taught her and her 11 siblings at a young age.

Dagga worth over R130k and counterfeit money seized

Officers from the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS, with the assistance of officers from the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit, arrested a 27-year-old man, last Thursday, for several offences.

EMPD officers nab metro parks department employee for alleged dagga use at work

Concerned workers from the metro’s parks department recently lodged complaints about fellow workers using dagga at the depot, as well as during working hours. They claimed the dagga use invariably led to altercations on a daily basis. The complainants also mentioned this led to a dangerous working environment as the alleged dagga-smokers operate machines which could lead to serious injuries to themselves and their fellow workers.
