A security officer was shot in a cash-in-transit heist in the Germiston CBD, on Monday.
Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS, told the GCN that at about 9.45am, G4S arrived at a business, situated on the corner of Spilsbury and Meyer streets, to collect money.
The driver of the vehicle parked on the pavement in Meyer Street, directly in front of the shop door.
“The 49-year-old crew member went inside to collect the money, however, the company was not ready for the collection and thus no service was provided,” said de Jager.
As the man exited the premises, two unknown men approached him and started shooting at him.
“He was shot twice in his bulletproof vest and sustained two wounds to his right shoulder,” said de Jager.
“The empty trolley, with one safe key inside, was taken by the suspects.

“The crew member ran and got into the G4S vehicle.
“The driver of the vehicle remained in the vehicle all the time.”
The suspects fled in a grey BMW which was parked in Spilsbury Street, taking the empty trolley with them.
No arrests have been made and cases of cash-in-transit heist (cross pavement robbery) and attempted murder are being investigated by the Germiston SAPS.
