Family member leaps into pool to save child

Netcare 911 paramedics respond to reports of drowning in Elspark, on Wednesday.

Netcare 911 paramedics rushed to Elspark on Wednesday, responding to reports of a drowning.

“Paramedics arrived on scene at 6.43pm,” said Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer for Netcare 911.

Reports from the scene indicated that a three-year-old boy was found unconscious in a swimming pool.

“Upon noticing the child, a family member jumped into the pool to rescue the boy,” said Herbst.

Paramedics assessed the child, who had regained consciousness and was breathing normally.

“He was rapidly transported to a nearby hospital for further assessment,” Herbst said.
