Elsburg Substation explosion and building collapse leads to power outage

Just after 7am last Tuesday morning businesses surrounding the Elsburg Substation heard a loud bang. After which several suburbs were plunged into darkness. The cause of the outage has been confirmed as an explosion and building collapse at the Elsburg Substation in Ostend Road.

Defining, diagnosing and dealing with depression

The world observed World Mental Health Day recently by raising awareness on mental health illnesses, psycho-education and types of psychotherapy. In efforts to remove the stigma associated with mental health issues and its treatment, Dr Ahmed Valli (FCPsych), a psychiatrist, and Dr Liezel Anguelova (D.Litt Et Phill), a counselling psychologist at Life Roseacres Hospital, gave a description of depression, its symptoms and ways to treat the illness.

Update – Power restoration delayed at Elsburg Substation, as new equipment is sourced

Following an explosion and building collapse at the Elsburg Substation in Ostend Road last Tuesday morning, several suburbs in Germiston were plunged into darkness. The metro first estimated that the power would be restored by 9am, on Wednesday, however, after working through the night, technicians then estimated that power would only be restored by 8pm that evening.

Restless weekend for residents surrounding Germiston Lake

Spring has definitely sprung, complete with sunny days and warm evenings. For many, there is nothing better than the warm evenings with friends, and with this in mind, many guests flocked to Germiston Lake, recently, for RapLyf Records and Kwesta’s three-day-long Spring Break Festival. Residents from a number of surrounding suburbs, such as Denlee, Lambton, Dinwiddie, Hazeldene, Castleview, Albemarle and Elsburg, however, didn’t enjoy their weekend as many have complained about the noise from the festival

Train goes up in flames at Germiston Station

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters from Germiston and Boksburg Central fire stations collectively battled the blaze engulfing a passenger train at Germiston Station, last Tuesday. The incident took place at about 9.30am.
