Detectives from the Katlehong Police Station arrested a 40-year-old man from the Mavimbela Section, in Katlehong, on Wednesday on a charge of perjury.

The crime was discovered after detectives visited the victim’s home to gather more information after he opened a case of armed robbery at the station, last Saturday.

“The accused told officers when opening the case he had been walking home late at night when he was approached by two men.

“The men allegedly threatened him with a firearm and robbed him of his firearm, a licensed 9mm pistol, a cellphone and his wallet, which contained R20 in cash,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, corporate communications officer for the Katlehong police.

While questioning the suspect about the robbery, detectives became suspicious.

“The man’s answers were not satisfactory and the detectives decided to search his home,” said Ndobe.
