Elssies Hope, Love and Daycare Centre in Elsburg celebrated Workers’ Day on Wednesday with a fun-filled family fun day.
The event, held at the school in Delport Street in Elsburg, aimed to raise funds towards the upgrade of the school’s facilities.
“A big thank you goes to Sebrena Syed for her assistance in organising the event,” said Lynn Pretorius on behalf of the school.

The school also thanked all the stall vendors who not only paid their stall fees, but also donated generously to the school and provided toys and treats to children from the centre.
“The school, previously known as Elsburg Pre-Primary, has been plagued by rumours and bad publicity within the community due to previous alleged mismanagement,” explained Lynn.
“The school is now under new management and currently undergoing a complete overhaul and will be run as a day care, pre-school and aftercare under the umbrella of a community centre with the mission statement ‘Build hope through education’.”
The centre’s aim is to fill the school to capacity.

“Eventually through our community outreach programmes we will be able to offer homework and aftercare facilities to get children in the community off the streets,” said Lynn.
“In addition, we hope to also provide free education up to Grade R for those who meet the criteria.
“Our area is one filled with many socio-economic problems and the need is great.”
