International catwalks beckon Albemarle beauty

Jolene Stander is pursuing her dream of becoming a top model.

Albemarle beauty Jolene Stander (16) is growing from strength to strength in her modelling career.

The young beauty, who is a Grade 11 learner at Hoërskool Alberton, jetted off to Tokyo in Japan over the weekend to pursue an international modelling career.

“I am so excited and I hope this experience will lead to more opportunities for me, such as working in New York and other countries and becoming a top model,” Jolene said.

Jolene started modelling at the age of 13 at the Alberton branch of Figures Finesse International Modelling and Talent Agency.

In the short time she has been on the catwalk she has seen phenomenal growth in her career.

She was first named runner-up in the Figures National Model of the Year fashion model division in the girls’ 13 to 15 years age group in December 2017.

She then won the International Model and Talent Association (IMTA) Talent Search competition in 2018 in the M1 division (height 1.7m and above).

Jolene also won the Figures International Model of the Year in the M1 division, where 19 branches competed against each other at the Roodepoort Youth Theatre.

She walked away with an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the SA IMTA Project Aspirant International Model (AIM) Convention aboard the MSC Musica.

She also competed in the Miss High Schools SA 2018 competition and was chosen as one of the top 15 finalists.

Help young Albemarle model take the crown

The main aim of this pageant is to support young, bright high school learners in South Africa and they, in turn, support the Girl Power Foundation.

Through all of this Jolene has remained humble and said her mother is her biggest role model, as no matter what happens she always has a positive attitude towards life.

When Jolene boarded the MSC Musica in March, this year, she was excited to see where the convention would lead her.

Nineteen international and two local talent scouts judged the competitions during the five-day long convention.

Jolene received the second highest number of call-backs, 14 in total, from the local and international talent scout agents.

The youngster also won the Miss MSC Musica 2019 Senior Swimwear Competition.

This was where she was scouted by international agent Hiromi Tashiro and was offered and signed a three-month contract with World Top Model Inc situated in Tokyo, Japan.

Jolene is over the moon to be starting her international modelling career.

“I thank Figures Finesse International Modelling and Talent Agency for their guidance and the opportunities they have given me over the past few years to reach my goal and dream of becoming an international fashion model,” Jolene said.

“I am also grateful to all those people who assisted me with donations to make my trip to Tokyo possible.”

When Jolene is not hard at work making her modelling dreams come true, she enjoys playing jukskei and was the captain of one of the u-15 teams at school.

She also loves public speaking and listening to music.

“My motto is never give up and hard work pays off,” said Jolene and she will certainly be living this for the next few months.
