Police crack down on illegal sale of alcohol

Primrose police apprehend two suspects on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.

During a recent patrol in the Rasta informal settlement, in Primrose, officers from the Primrose Police Station arrested two men.

The suspects, aged 26 and 33 years old respectively, were arrested on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.

“At each tavern, they entered, found the owner, introduced themselves as police officers and asked for the owner’s liquor licence,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“When the owners could not provide these they were arrested.

“It is hoped the operation will help to curb the illegal sale of alcohol, loud music and crimes we believe are related to alcohol abuse, such as assault, domestic violence and rape.”

The suspects were detained at the Primrose Police Station following their arrests, and were later released on a warning after paying admission of guilt fines.
