ALERT: Motorists urged to avoid the roads surrounding the Marathon informal settlement in Primrose
Marathon informal settlement residents block roads with portable toilets and burning tyres, demanding better service delivery from the metro.
Motorists traveling in Primrose have been urged to avoid the roads surrounding the Marathon informal settlement this evening (Sunday, December 8), as they have been blocked by protesting residents.

“The affected roads include Cemetery, Johan Rissik and Main Reef roads,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
“Residents have used portable toilets and burning tyres to block the roads.”
It is reported that the community are protesting against an alleged lack of service delivery by the metro.
“They claim that their portable toilets, which are full and stinking, have not been drained by the metro for some time,” explained Maome.

Police and members of the EMPD are currently monitoring the situation but no reports of violence have been reported at this time.
“We have noted less than 100 people on scene, but will keep monitoring the situation,” said Maome.
