Surrender illegal and unwanted firearms between December and May

Police urge community to surrender illegal and unwanted firearms.

The firearm amnesty period is officially open.

The community are urged to surrender all illegal or unwanted firearms, ammunition and/or firearm parts as from December 1 to May 31, 2020.

“We urge the community, in particular those in possession of expired firearm licences, to approach their local police station’s firearm record centre,” said Capt Lesetja Mathobela, communications officer for the Katlehong North police.

Community members are asked to bring:

• The firearm, with two certified copies of the identity document.

• Certified copy of proof of residential address.

• Two colour photos (ID size).

• Certified copy of expired licence (copy of the front and the back).

“The amnesty is only for six months, so the community is encouraged to utilise this opportunity,” Mathobela said.

“Let us make the Katlehong North SAPS precinct safe.”
