Service delivery a top priority for Guereirro

The councillor said his plan for 2021 are to push for clean governance with service delivery as top priority.

After a hard year, Ward 40 provisional councillor Kade Guerreiro recently shared his challenges of 2020 and plans for the new year ahead.

“Everyone could not wait for the end of 2020 and 2021 to start,” said Guerreiro.
“My biggest thank you goes to the ward 40 community who allowed me to serve them despite the good and bad times. We are always better and stronger together as one.

“I would also like to thank the many volunteers who help keep the ward working and made my life easier. I also thank the people and businesses from Bedfordview and beyond for their generosity towards my community in 2020.

“They donated food parcels, helped provide Buhle Park Secondary School its first fully functional library and helped several disabled children in our informal settlements.”

The year 2020 was a tough and anxious year for residents of ward 40.
Covid-19 and the lockdown caused job losses and left people facing hard times.
Guerreiro said the biggest challenge of 2020 as a councillor was to help provide relief for disadvantaged residents.

“Despite all our efforts, poverty is at an all-time high within Ward 40. To date, we distributed over 4 500 food parcels, 1 800 toiletry packs and 500 baby packs to residents of Buhle Park, Leondale and Crossroads.”
Guerreiro’s plan for 2021 is to push for clean governance with service delivery being a top priority.

His plans for this year are:
• Leondale: clean and upgrade parks, road safety with street lights that work, a functional swimming pool and addressing power failures.
• Buhle Park: tarred roads, clinic, taxi rank, better waste collection, addressing power failures, indigent awareness campaigns and more community recreational services such as parks.
He said crossroads at informal settlements need re-blocking to be completed with electricity for all, as well as running water and toilet facilities.
The immediate focus for Guerreiro is service delivery, power failures, waste collection and re-blocking.
