A new challenge to progress on angling ranks of the Ladies SA’s Championships awaits Hazeldene resident Sylvie Richards (15) in March.
Sylvie ventured into deeper waters and lined up against adult anglers, professionals and national anglers at Moolmans Island recently.

Sylvie’s mother, Georgia Richards, said as with anything, being brave and courageous are the most important elements for success.

“Sylvie was undeterred despite her young age, facing off against more experienced anglers.” The heat turned up and Sylvie made it known to her opponents that she was a force to be reckoned with, after her first bite and netting her first fish in seven minutes of the competition.

She fished amongst 24 adult male anglers, and bagged 22 fishes with a weight of 34.43 kg, giving her 454.3 catch points and earning her position 13 overall.
So far, Sylvie is ranked ninth in the country for 2021 as a junior for Elite Series. “Sylvie is excited and looking forward to taking part in the championships to be held at Barberspan under the SNW-Central North West Province colours,” said Georgia.
