Guns and cash uncovered in a Makause shack
The cooperative suspect welcomed officers into his shack for a search.
A man in possession of unregistered firearms and a large amount of cash was arrested on March 30 in Primrose.
EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said the EMPD Tracing Unit officers on a crime prevention operation patrolled Pretoria Road when they were approached by a concerned community member about a man who “flaunts different kinds of firearms”.
“Officers responded to the civilian’s concerns and visited a shack in Makause, where a 48-year-old was searched and a 0.22 Olympic revolver was found in his possession. A Taurus .38 special revolver and the 9mm Star pistol were found under mattresses. The serial numbers were filed off. “On the floor, between the bed and a cupboard, EMPD officers noticed a loose safe and the owner was requested to open it. “Officers uncovered cash amounting to R111 700. The suspect alleged it was his savings.”
The suspect facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms was transported to Primrose Police Station.
