Rooftop fire extinguised

"As emergency services, we urge residents not to make open fires in residential buildings."

City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services responded to an emergency fire call on September 8.

DEMS media liaison officer William Ntladi said they received the call at about 11:50 and, upon arrival, responders found residents using fire extinguishers to put the fire out.

“We later found it was paper and the fibre surfaces that was used to seal the rooftop surface that had burned,” said Ntladi.

“We identified three crèches with toddlers inside the building. If the fire was inside, it would have flared up due to wind conditions.

“As emergency services, we urge residents not to make open fires in residential buildings.”
