Study IT for free with Germiston library

Germiston Library is offering e-learning through Cisco for which applications will close on September 23.

E-learning will be introduced and offered at the Germiston Library in partnership with the national library of South Africa and Gauteng provincial library services.

The e-learning course, which will be called NetAcad-CoE, is offered through Cisco Network Academy and is a comprehensive three-month e-learning programme to assist young people within the City to gain an IT qualification.

This course is self-paced and can be done online. The City’s knowledge centres will be available to assist participants to connect and do the course online. There will be trainers available to assist, explain and teach everything about the course.

“Germiston library was selected as one of the nine libraries across the country to offer the course and we are excited to be part of the educational development of the young people in the City,’’ said Karin Muller, divisional head of library and information services.

“The course is made up of six modules, IT Essentials Introduction to Cybersecurity, Cyber Security Essentials, Introduction to the internet of things, Linux unhatched and Programming essentials in Python.

“The course is valued at R5 000 and is offered free to interested applicants who will qualify, as per the application requirements. Interested candidates must be between 18 and 25 years of age, committed to complete the course, unemployed, must have basic IT knowledge, must have completed Grade 12 and preference will be given to City of Ekurhuleni library members,” added Muller.

Applications forms are available at info.libraries@ekurhuleni.gov.za, and the closing date is September 23. All successful candidates will be informed by September 30.
