Schools receive sports equipment

City of Ekurhuleni hands over sports equipment to schools.

A total of 57 schools from Ekurhuleni received sports equipment, thanks to a partnership between the City of Ekurhuleni and the Gauteng Department of Education.

The handover ceremony was held on September 16 at the Germiston Stadium.

In attendance were MMC for Health and Social Services Clr Nomadlozi Nkosi, head of Department of Sport, Recreation, Art, and Culture of the City Zanele Katembo, Cedric Ranchor, who is the director of school sport and extra curriculum activities in Gauteng Department of Education, as well as the schools.

Each school received equipment to be used for three sporting disciplines, namely table tennis, hockey and chess.

“One of the priorities of the City regarding sport is to make sure that there is gender balance in making sure that girls are also incorporated into different sporting codes to eradicate gender disparities in sports,’’ said Nkosi.

The MMC explained that the 57 schools were selected from previously disadvantaged areas in the city.

Schools that benefited based on the sporting codes included:

• Mashemong Primary School
• Emangweni Primary School
• Winnie Mandela Primary School
• Reagile Primary School
Lsen schools:
• Elandspark in Bedfordview
• Belvedere Lsen School
• Ithembelihle Lsen School

Chess, Thembisa:
• Madibatlou Middle School
• Nyiko Primary School
• Marhulana Primary School
• Rev Maphethu Primary School
• OR Tambo Primary School
Lsen Schools:
• Elandspark Lsen School in Bedfordview
• Belverdere Lsen School
• Ithembelihle Lsen School

Table tennis, Thembisa:
• Khulasizwe Primary School
• Peter Zongwane Primary School
• Ipontshe Primary School
• Kgatlamping Primary School
• Gahlanso Primary School

LSEN schools:
• Belverdere Lsen School
• Elandspark Lsen School in Bedfordview
• Ithembelihle Lsen School.
