Arwen and Allen Halgreen are not new to the problems of their property being damaged by sewerage water flowing into their yard.

“We just keep on experiencing problems after problems. We think now the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) needs to do a proper inspection and come up with a solution because we can’t even enjoy our yard because of the stink,” said Arwen.

The water is also starting to lift some of the pavement.

The couple believes it’s a lack of maintenance on sewer lines.

“The city is not doing a good job on upkeep. The trees behind our property aren’t pruned and the roots of the trees are putting pressure on the foundation of the wall, and the trunks are leaning over our wall. We also suspect there is a problem with the drainage system,” said Allan.

They called on CoE for a permanent solution.

The couple said they have reported the problem to CoE and had not received any feedback. They have now called on Clr Kade Guerreiro to assist them.

“There is a problem in the property. I cannot speculate without facts. I need to get a team on-site to inspect the problem and maybe get cameras in the pipes and see if there is any blockage and look into permanent solutions,” said Guerreiro.

“At this stage, I cannot say when the team can attend to the problem because they are a bit stretched. We will do a diligent inspection to get to the source of the problem,” said Guerreiro.
