The Happy Kids Daycare manager previously shared with GCN she reported a water leak in February and it was still not resolved by March 29.
She said there had been several water leaks in recent months, dating back to 2021.
She also said CoE subcontractors dug a hole and left.
“The hole became bigger and dangerous to both pedestrians and motorists,” she told GCN at the time.
“The hole was dug right in front of my gate and for weeks it was left unattended. It caused chaos during rush hour when parents had to drop off their children,” said van Rensburg.
On April 11, she told GCN the gate is still not operational because the pavement repairs have not been completed.
“This is frustrating because no one has given us a clear indication of what needs to be done and the time frame involved,” said Celeste.
Clr Kade Guerreiro has acknowledged the situation.
The City of Ekurhuleni blamed old infrastructure for the delay in repairs.
“The existing steel water mainline is old and had to be exposed for approximately 20m for repairs,” Zweli Dlamini, CoE spokesperson, commented.
“The city replaced approximately 18m of pipe and is busy with the reinstatement of the driveways.”
