Hlalukane set for Kenya

Neo set to compete in Kenya

Germiston athlete Neo Hlalukane is set to represent the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in Kenya next month in varsity competitions.

He trains under the auspices of Thulani Sibeko.

Sibeko said he works towards cultivating athletes who can compete internationally and across the African continent.

Hlalukane said he is studying towards obtaining his diploma in logistics.

In 2017 Sibeko discovered his star athlete in Hlalukane during school competitions. By then Hlalukane was attending Primrose Technical High School.

Sibeko said Hlalukane will be representing UJ at the track and field competitions to be held on June 4.

He said this trip will allow Hlalukane to test himself against some of the best across the continent.

“Hlalukane ranked the third fastest runner in Central Gauteng Athletics. He has competed locally and dominated,” said Sibeko.

“He is an 800m runner and we achieved a lot since working together.”

Sibeko said Hlalukane runs a personal best time of 1.49 seconds but they working towards improving his time.

“By the end of the year we hope he would be running 1.45 seconds,” said Sibeko.
