252 suspects arrested in Ekurhuleni

Law enforcement in Germiston and surrounding areas held the operation on July 20 and 21.

Operation Okae Molao, led by Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole yielded results with 252 arrests in two days.

Law enforcement in Germiston and surrounding areas held the operation on July 20 and 21.

Captain Neldah Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni district communication officer, said 150 suspects were arrested on Wednesday for various crimes including assault, murder, armed robbery, rape, hijacking, gender-based violence, bribery and intimidation.

“Other suspects were arrested for crimes such as possession of stolen property and motor vehicles respectively, and conspiracy to commit rape and pointing a firearm,” said Sekgobela.

On Thursday morning, joint operations comprised of SAPS, EMPD, JMPD, CPF, and security companies in the Elsburg and Boksburg North areas continued.

“Seventy-four traffic fines to the value of R31 300 were issued for contravention of Road Traffic Act, 13 J534.

“Fines were also issued to illegal shebeen owners and second-hand good dealers for non-compliance valued at R18 000,” said Sekgobela.
