Varsity United defeats Young Boys

Germiston’s Liverpool Development Club hosted its fourth annual soccer tournament as part of its 10th-anniversary celebrations, with former Bafana Bafana stars bracing the fields.

The World Sports Betting as a sponsor of the tournament had its ambassadors, including former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana players Junior Khanye and Reneilwe Letsholonyane, present.

Lucky Muthelo, Liverpool’s head coach, said the tournament was successful.

“We thank Lerato Kgasi from WSB Team Gauteng who organised this tournament.

“Varsity United was crowned winners of the fourth annual tournament after defeating Young Boys 1-0 in the finals,” said Muthelo.

“Liverpool U19 played against X12 United in a pre-final match and won 1-0.”

He saw the tournament consisted of two groups with four teams in each. It was played with a point system with a team with the highest points qualifying for the finals.

“There were also individual awards for the best performing players. We look forward to hosting the fifth annual tournament in 2023,” said Muthelo.
