Being the first woman to receive the award during the 8th edition of the awards ceremony, the Diamond Elite Camp head coach, Maria, received the award with honour.

As an 2022 ASA national champion for the 100m sprint for girls U16, Alexandra was delighted to receive her award.

Maria said winning the award came as a shock since she was not expecting it, considering that she was a runner-up in the unsung legends category in the awards in 2019.

“I am always happy and fulfilled by the results my athletes give me. Having the award means that whatever we doing in training is working and people are taking notice,” said Maria.

“Parents are happy seeing their children winning, not only competitions, but awards as well. We have got some of our athletes qualified already for next year’s big competitions,” she said.

“In my category, there were no nominations. You get awarded after being voted by a panel of judges,” said Maria.

The elite camp continues to train at the Germiston Stadium on weekly basis. They now shift their focus to school and club competitions.
